It lacked boolean search in the standard search and other advanced search features.<ref name=":1" /><ref name="extreme"/> The company was based in San Francisco, California.<ref name=":0">Template:Cite web</ref>

On March 12, 2002, LookSmart announced that they would be acquiring WiseNut for about $9.25 million in stock.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref> LookSmart completed the acquisition in April.<ref>Template:Cite web</ref>
