Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury formed a government in June 1885,Template:SfnTemplate:Sfn<ref name="gov.uk">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> upon his appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom by Queen Victoria, succeeding William Ewart Gladstone.
