Part of the Fremont Union High School District, the school serves most of the area of western Cupertino. In 2020, Monta Vista was ranked by Newsweek as the 69th best high school for STEM subjects in the United States.<ref name="Newsweek Rank">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

As of 2024, Asian Americans comprise 78.6% of the student body.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

History

Monta Vista High opened in 1969.<ref name="school profile">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

In 2014, a new field, track, and stadium were built along with a new student union and newly renovated cafeteria and six classrooms.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

On November 8, 2024, Monta Vista High School went into lockdown owing to false reports of an active shooter. All students and staff were released after sheriffs completed their search of the campus and gave the all-clear.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
