Woodlawn Cemetery was founded and deeded to the city by Mayor Juan José Carrillo in 1884.

Woodlawn Cemetery, Mausoleum & Mortuary, formerly Ballona Cemetery, is located at 1847 14th Street, alongside Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica, California, United States. The cemetery was founded in 1897 and sits on 26 acres.<ref name=":0">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> It is owned and operated by the city of Santa Monica and is the final resting place of more than 54,000 people.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The cemetery has an eco-friendly section.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

History

Founded in 1897, the cemetery was first named the Ballona Township Cemetery as it was located on the Rancho La Ballona.<ref name=":0" /><ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> In the 1980s, it began to be used as a filming location.<ref>Template:Cite news</ref> In the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the cemetery was damaged.<ref>Template:Cite news</ref>
