This includes newspapers in all the former colonies now a part of Canada, which published prior to the War of 1812. The earliest Canadian newspaper was the Halifax Gazette which first published on 23 March 1752,<ref name="MacQuarrie2009" /> followed by other newspapers in what are now the Maritimes and Quebec.
