Illinois is a state located in the Midwestern United States. The most populous city is Chicago with 2,746,388 residents while the least populous is Valley City with 14 residents.<ref name="census"/> The largest municipality by land area is Chicago, which spans Template:Convert, while the smallest is Irwin at Template:Convert.<ref name="census"/>
